What is sparging tank?

A sparging tank is a vessel used in the brewing process to extract the remaining sugars from the mash, which can be further converted into alcohol. Sparging is the process of rinsing the grains in the mash tun with hot water to extract the remaining extract. The sparging tank holds the hot water that is gently sprayed over the top of the mash bed to thoroughly rinse the grains and extract the remaining sugars. The temperature and pH of the sparging water is critical to the brewing process, as it affects the flavor, color, and alcohol content of the beer. Sparging tanks are typically made of stainless steel and have heating elements to maintain the desired temperature and to prevent the growth of bacteria.
